Candy Ann Brown (oftentimes credited as Candy Brown or Candy Ann Houston; born August 18, 1958, in San Rafael, California) [1][2] is the actress who appears as Dr. Verbena Beeks on the Quantum Leap TV series.

Career[]

Candy has appeared in numerous roles in both television and films, which include appearances in such popular TV series such as What's Happening?, Lou Grant, A Different World, Amen, Roc, and Sister, Sister, as well as roles the films The Roller Girls in 1978, which was her first film appearance, Baby Boy, Paroled, and the critically acclaimed Will Smith/Jamie Foxx Muhammad Ali biopic Ali, whe she played the part of Odessa Clay, Muhammad Ali's mother. In 2012, she appeared in the romantic comedy/drama pic The One Who Loves You, appearing in the part of Ruby. She has also made big scteen appearances in the films Zebrahead and Six Feet Under.

Candy is known for originating the role of June in the 1975 Bob Fosse directed Broadway musical Chicago, and for such stage productions as the original cast of A Chorus Line [3] and Pippin.

Brown also performed on the Broadway stage in Purlie with Cleavon Little and Sherman Hemsley, and in the West Coast premiere of the play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.
