John O' Malley is an aging, but well-renowned Shakespearean stage actor who appears in the episode of Quantum Leap titled "Catch a Falling Star" in Season 2 of the series. The part of John is played by veteran character actor John Cullum, who is well known for his role as Holling Vincoeur in the CBS-TV series Northern Exposure.

Sam leaps into Ray Hutton, a working actor in the touring company of Man of La Mancha. He's the understudy to O'Malley, who's a bit of lush. Sam's task is to keep the man from suffering a tragic fall during an upcoming performance. Sam is distracted when he sees his first love, Nicole, his one-time piano teacher, who also acted in the touring company, who Sam had a crush on at age 15, his age the time of the leap into Hutton.
