John Kapelos (born March 8, 1956) appeared as archaeologist Dr. Mustafa El-Razul, who plans to steal credit for discovering the Ptah-Hotep tomb from Sam's leapee, Dr. Dale Conway, Sam's latest leapee, who also must protect fellow colleauge Dr. Ginny Will from him, a coming sandstorm, as well as a curse attached to entering the ancient tomb of Pharaoh Ptah-Hotep in Egypt in the Season Four episode of Quantum Leap titled "The Curse of Ptah-Hotep".

Kapelos has made numerous guest appearances on television shows such as NBC-TV's Miami Vice as a corrupt public defender, Queer as Folk, FOX's The X-Files, NBC-TV's Seinfeld and ER, ABC-TV's Desperate Housewives, Home Improvement, and Boston Legal.

John's many film appearances include the Oscar-award winning Nothing In Common (1986), with co-stars Jackie Gleason and Tom Hanks, The Late Shift, Just Cause, The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, Stick It, Flight 29 Down, Pomegranate (2005), Julia (Leah Pipes's mother) in the soccer film Her Best Move (2006), National Lampoon's Bag Boy (2007), and This Is 40 (2012).
