Susan French (born Susan French Moultrie[1] on January 23, 1912 – died April 6, 2003) appeared as Ms. Melny Trafford in the Quantum Leap episode titled "The Color of Truth" in Season 1. Susan was a seasoned veteran stage, television and film actress.

Early years[]

Born in Los Angeles, French was the daughter of Lloyd Moultrie, a show-business lawyer. She was a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.[2]

Career[]

After acting for years as a hobby in local repretoiry theatre, Susan, who began acting on Broadway stage with George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's "Merrily We Roll Along", finally moved into films in 1968 at age 56 to play mature and elderly roles. Susan was also the founder of the "Theatre 40" theatrical company in Beverly Hills.

Susan appeared in the TV movie People Like Us (1990). She also played the role of Mrs. Shaw in the TV movie Captain America (1979) and its sequel, Captain America II: Death Too Soon. French also acted in the soap opera Bare Essence (1982–1983). She also appeared in episodes of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour ("The World's Oldest Motive," original air date April 12, 1965), Dallas, Falcon Crest, The Colbys, L.A. Law, Moonlighting, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Her final television appearance was in an episode of Picket Fences. She also had a recurring role in The CBS-TV series Cagney and Lacey as Mrs. Skimmins.

French also appeared in the 1980 film Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Her other film credits include House (1986), The Verne Miller Story (1987), Flatliners (1990) and Younger and Younger (1993). Her last film role was in the live-action version of Fist of the North Star (1995).

She also played the main character in one of Remington Steele's best episodes ("Love Among the Steele", 1983). [3]

French died in 2003 of natural causes in Santa Monica, California at the age of 91.
